You are here because you want to improve your posture, or want to get rid of your back pain. Either way, you have arrived at the right place, and you are not alone in your quest.

Nine out of ten people will have at least one episode of back pain in their lifetime, back pain costs the US economy more than 100 billion dollars per year, and 50 to 60 million people per year (in the USA) will seek medical advice for back pain related issues.

Back pain is responsible for one-third of work related disability, it is also the primary cause of lost work days in the united states.

The cause of back pain has eluded researchers for centuries. fortunately, concerted recent scientific efforts and the onset of modern technology have finally enabled scientists to elucidate this mystery.

We finally now know without a doubt what causes chronic back pain.

Because of the way our bodies are built, we have no choice but to lean our trunks forward in order to perform our daily tasks.

The vicious cycle of back pain begins with the performance of our daily tasks with poor posture and improper body mechanics. This leads to overuse and fatigue of our core muscles.

As inflammation and back pain ensue, the brain inhibits the core muscles from properly functioning, in an effort to prevent them from further damage.

The end result is a dysfunctional motor planning of the core muscles, in other words, the brain loses the ability to properly control the core muscles.

The core muscles tend to fire at the wrong time. They generate less force than usual and also reach their peak earlier than they would if the person was pain-free.

back_inflammationWhen a chronic back pain sufferer is pain-free, the mere thought of anticipating back pain will cause the core muscles to misfire

When an individual bends his trunk forward to its limit, the back muscles relax entirely, however, in a person suffering from back pain the muscles continue firing.

The ability to sense position of the spine (propioception ) is affected in back patients. It can be off by as much as 6 degrees when attempting to reposition oneself from a slouched position. This is a considerable amount of error for the lumbar spine.

Patients with chronic back pain show significant brain changes when compared to control groups, displaying atrophy of cortical grey matter of 5 to 11 percent, the equivalent of 10 to 20 years of brain aging in a normal person.

Shrinkage of these brain regions explains the psychological, cognitive and sensory abnormalities that occur with chronic back pain.

This is how the vicious cycle of back pain is perpetuated.

The Posture Saver has been developed according to the principles of “evidence based practice”, meaning that science and nothing but proven scientific concepts have been used in developing The Posture Saver.

The Posture Saver is a vestlike garment that performs the functions of a back brace, without the discomfort, limited adjustability and unattractiveness associated with wearing a back brace.

The Posture Saver is intended for people with poor posture and/or non-specific chronic back pain. Non-specific chronic back pain is defined as back pain that has lasted longer than 3 months, and has no specific identifiable cause.

In other words there is no disease process or structural derangement such as a fracture that would cause the pain. More than 95% of chronic back pain cases are classified as non-specific chronic back pain.

For a list of all the conditions that can be helped by The Posture Saver, please refer to the questions & answers page.

Demonstration of The Posture Saver

The Posture Saver is worn like a vest, it has 2 bands of fabric surrounding the shoulders that are connected to 2 straps of elastic fabric.

The elastic straps crisscross in the back, and finally attach in the front at the lower abdomen area via hook and loop (Velcro)

When the elastic straps are pulled forward, the shoulders retract (are pulled backwards), positioning the trunk in perfectly neutral position.

The amount of tension can be adjusted by pulling the straps to a desirable level, ensuring that wearing The Posture Saver is always a comfortable experience.

The Posture Saver prevents the wearer from bending forward in an inappropriate manner. It can be used whether one is sitting at a desk, working on a car, or performing surgery.

The Posture saver acts as an early warning system that will dramatically improve one’s postural awareness.

By continuously inhibiting the trunk from slouching, and substituting instead the right postural response, the brain will ultimately be “reprogrammed” to make sure that the trunk is always bending with proper neutral posture.

The Posture Saver is made of soft fabric, it is lightweight, comfortable, attractive and affordable.

People have described that wearing The Posture Saver is like being pleasantly hugged, because of the compression caused by the straps around the low back area.
